HealthTrust Europe Demonstrates Commitment to Community for Sixth Year

HealthTrust Europe is a company that takes its corporate social responsibility seriously. For six consecutive years, the company has been striving to positively impact the communities it serves, selecting a charity to support each calendar year

This year’s proceeds will go to The Miscarriage Association, a UK-based charity that provides support and information to people affected by miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy and molar pregnancy. HealthTrust Europe’s donation will help the charity to continue providing vital services to those in need.

During the cheque handover ceremony, representatives from HealthTrust Europe and Karn Dyson from The Miscarriage Association gathered to celebrate the partnership and express their mutual dedication to making a difference to families across the community.

The Miscarriage Association’s Fundraising Manager, Karn Dyson, was delighted to visit a recent “All Hands” meeting at HealthTrust Europe’s Edgbaston site to be presented with the cheque and thank colleagues for their generosity. During this meeting, she also shared details of how the funds would be utilised.

Karn said, “The Miscarriage Association is a national charity providing support and information to anyone who is affected by miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy or molar pregnancy. It provides staffed helpline services, in-person and online peer support groups, a comprehensive website, patient information leaflets, and training for healthcare professionals and employers.

“The £6,333 raised by HealthTrust Europe will go a long way towards supporting over 8,000 direct contact service users and helping to provide some of the 250,000 free leaflets we supply to the NHS each year. The team at Health Trust Europe was warm and welcoming. It showed a real interest and passion for fundraising in the workplace to help others in challenging situations. Thank you all for your generosity and hard work; it really is appreciated.”

The funds raised resulted from the Peak District Charity Walk, HealthTrust Europe Bake Off, Fundraising Raffle and many other event contributions, showcasing the company’s financial commitment and enthusiasm of its employees, which the ceremony’s attendees agreed demonstrated a corporate culture that values social responsibility and actively engages in initiatives to support the wider community.

Vivek Jain, Chief Financial Officer of HealthTrust Europe, said:

“We firmly believe in making a positive impact within our local communities and we are honoured to have been able to make a small difference to the lives of families across Birmingham. I am very grateful to colleagues across HealthTrust Europe who took part in the fundraising activities throughout 2023 and look forward to continuing our efforts to support important causes in the year ahead.”

HealthTrust Europe teams up with FareShare Birmingham to deliver 2,000 meals

HealthTrust Europe, a leading healthcare business based in Edgbaston, has teamed up with charity Fareshare to help deliver food to residents in need across Birmingham.

Fareshare is the UK’s largest charity fighting hunger and food waste by reducing food waste and delivering vital services to people most in need across local communities. They prevent good food from going to waste by redistributing it to frontline charities. The work of its volunteers is crucial to ensuring that Fareshare accomplishes its mission, performing critical tasks like preparing orders at the depots across the city and ensuring that food is distributed as quickly as possible.

As we enter winter, team members from HealthTrust Europe volunteered with the charity to sort, package and prepare orders for collection and delivery. This volunteer work helped ensure that food reached those most in need, resulting in saving 2,000 meals from going to waste by the end of the day.

HealthTrust Europe’s support for Fareshare is part of its wider mission to support its local community. The company is committed to making a positive impact on the lives of those most in need and hopes that other organisations will be inspired to take advantage of the volunteering opportunities available to them across Birmingham and the West Midlands.

The initiative is just the latest charitable cause HealthTrust Europe has supported. Team members from the leading procurement organisation recently embarked on an ambitious fundraising walk to raise money for HealthTrust Europe’s charity for 2023, the Miscarriage Association, and raised thousands in the process.

Bashira Begum, a volunteer from HealthTrust Europe, said:

“Volunteering at Fareshare Birmingham was an eye-opening experience. It was amazing to see how much food could go to waste every day and how much of a difference we can make by redistributing it to those in need. I would highly recommend volunteering at Fareshare Birmingham to anyone who wants to positively impact their community.”

Hannah Barton, HealthTrust Europe’s HR Director, said:

“Volunteering provides an opportunity for colleagues to give something back to the community, whilst developing new skills and connecting with people over a common purpose. At HTE, we believe that everyone has something to offer, and encourage our employees to get involved with our corporate volunteering scheme, for the greater good as well as their own wellbeing”.

HealthTrust Europe raises thousands for Miscarriage Association charity

Employees from the leading healthcare business HealthTrust Europe, which is based in Edgbaston, have raised over £2,700 for the Miscarriage Association from embarking on an ambitious sponsored walk in the Peak District.

The walk aimed to raise funds for the crucial support the Miscarriage Association provides to individuals and families affected by the loss of a baby in pregnancy. The team at HealthTrust Europe initially set a fundraising target of £1,500 for the walk but, after receiving overwhelming support from donors, the team exceeded this goal to help the charity to expand its reach and impact. This will go far towards reaching HealthTrust Europe’s £5,000 goal for the year.

The walk for the Miscarriage Association, which is HealthTrust Europe’s named charity for 2023, kicked off from Bakewell in the Peak District. The route, known as the ‘Lathkill Loop,’ spans over 7 miles with a climb of over 500 feet.

A total of seven team members from HealthTrust Europe participated in the walk, demonstrating their commitment to supporting the Miscarriage Association’s vital work. The team also hopes to raise awareness of the organisation, which offers vital support to those experiencing miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, or molar pregnancy.

Tragically, an estimated one in four pregnancies ends in miscarriage, and more are lost through ectopic and molar pregnancy. The Miscarriage Association believes that pregnancy loss matters. They work tirelessly to provide support, resources, and advocacy to those in need, and use their influence to make a difference.

HealthTrust Europe has a proud history of supporting charitable causes through walks and other charitable initiatives. In a similar event in 2019, the team walked to Snowden, which contributed to them raising a total of over £10,000 that year for the mental health charity Mind. They also raised over £10,000 last year in support Birmingham Children’s Hospital through activities which included taking part in a Dragon Boat Race.

Speaking of the walk, Manesha, Senior Customer Care Specialist at HealthTrust Europe said:
“We had a wonderful day in the Peak District with colleagues to raise money for such a fantastic cause. We walked 12.73km and it took us 5hr.16mins, the weather was challenging however we were determined to finish the walk as we know it was for such a great cause”.

Karn Dyson, Fundraising Manager for the Miscarriage Association, said:  “We were absolutely delighted when staff at Health Trust Europe nominated us as their charity of the year for 2023.  Their continued support throughout the year has been hugely beneficial in helping us to continue to support those who need us the most at what can be a very difficult and lonely time.  The teams sponsored Peak District walk, during one of the wettest weekends of the summer, must have really tested their resilience and commitment to helping our charity, and we recognise their hard work in planning, organising, and completing such a challenging event.  We are really grateful to the team at Health Trust Europe for their amazing support, and for signposting people to our services.

Well done, and a heartfelt thanks, to all!”

How can the NHS manage clinical waste safely and effectively?

NHS England’s Clinical Waste Strategy, launched in March 2023, sets ambitious targets to improve how the health service plans to manage and dispose of waste by 2030. Wrapped into this strategy include other targets for managing the 156,000 tonnes of clinical waste created per year, including reducing the net cost of clinical waste management by 15% per tonne and cutting carbon emissions from waste management by 80%. However, against a backdrop of financial constraints and workforce pressures, how can we ensure that these goals are achieved?

This strategy was launched five years after the waste management crisis of 2018 which saw a failure to adequately dispose of hazardous clinical waste due to capacity constraints within the existing disposal network. In response, the Clinical Waste Strategy sets out targets to improve national and regional resilience for treating clinical waste, including expanding the capacity of NHS Trusts to treat this waste.

At HealthTrust Europe, we understand the importance of disposing of clinical waste safely and effectively. Our Total Waste Management Framework has been developed to be simple to use for NHS Trusts, backed by leading suppliers who offer true supply capability and the expertise to assist NHS Trusts with the complexities of managing clinical waste.

As a bespoke agreement, this Framework includes the provision of clinical waste services from the point of collection through to the final disposal of clinical waste. This aligns with the Clinical Waste Strategy, with our suppliers delivering cost-effective and secure services from the point of collection and through to final disposal.

Our Total Waste Management Framework is also receptive to the unique challenges that each individual NHS Trust faces when managing and disposing of clinical waste. With the Clinical Waste Strategy applying to the entirety of NHS England, HealthTrust Europe recognises that some NHS Trusts face a more challenging prospect for contributing to these targets. Our Total Waste Management framework has been designed to be flexible to the needs and challenges facing individual Trusts. Customers of this Framework can access free support from leading suppliers to ensure that they are moving towards these targets, supported by our leading customer care team who are on hand to support the procurement and onboarding process.

The NHS is one of the largest producers of waste in the country and ensuring that this strategy is achieved is crucial for not only protecting the safety of the public, but also ensuring that the health service is moving towards its target of net zero carbon emissions by 2045.

Our Total Waste Management framework offers a unique opportunity to help realise this ambition, effortlessly connecting Trusts with leading clinical waste disposal suppliers who are specialists in removing and treating clinical waste safely and effectively.

Queen Elizabeth Hospital Community Garden welcomes HealthTrust Europe volunteers

HealthTrust Europe, the leading healthcare business based in Edgbaston, has teamed up with the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Community Garden with five team members taking part in a day of charitable gardening.

Through a partnership with The Conservation Volunteers (TCV), the team members from HealthTrust Europe helped to build new raised flower beds in the community garden which serves the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. TCV connects people and communities with their local green spaces across the country, transforming over 1,200 green spaces to date while championing the benefits of active lives and good nutrition.

The project at the hospital is one of a number of ‘Green Gyms’ that TCV is supporting around the UK. With the help of HealthTrust Europe’s volunteers and others from the community, the garden will soon be transformed after it became overgrown during the COVID-19 pandemic. TCV is welcoming volunteers to get involved in the Green Gym through their weekly sessions.

HealthTrust Europe’s support for the Community Garden is part of its wider mission to meet net zero by 2030. The company is committed to making a positive impact on the local environment and hopes that other organisations will be inspired to take advantage of the volunteering opportunities available to them across the West Midlands.

The initiative is just the latest charitable cause HealthTrust Europe has supported. Team members from the leading procurement solutions business are set to embark on an ambitious fundraising walk to raise money for HealthTrust Europe’s charity for 2023, the Miscarriage Association.

James Ruppel, a volunteer from HealthTrust Europe, said:

“We all had a fantastic morning practising our sawing and drilling skills whilst making a real difference to the Community Garden.

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital is an important local institution, and this rejuvenated Community Garden promises to offer a place of calm and comfort for those visiting or living locally. With lots of opportunities to get involved with, I encourage all to explore volunteering with TVC and reap the benefits of supporting their local communities!”

Vivek Jain, HealthTrust Europe’s Vice President for Finance, Sales and Marketing, said:

“We are really pleased to be supporting the fantastic work that TCV is doing at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Community Garden, not least their efforts to encourage environmental stewardship and community engagement locally.

Our commitment to ensuring HealthTrust Europe’s employees can make the most of volunteering initiatives locally is longstanding and I look forward to seeing many more colleagues doing their bit to support local causes.

We are firmly committed to protecting the local environment, and make a positive impact within our local communities, as we move towards our own target of being a net zero organisation by 2023.”

HealthTrust Europe Receives High Commendation at the HSJ Partnership Awards 2023!

HealthTrust Europe is delighted to announce that our Digital Pathology project has been Highly Commended in the Procurement Project of the Year at the HSJ Partnership Awards 2023, recognising our outstanding dedication to improving healthcare and effective collaboration with the NHS across multiple complex systems.

The event was attended by over 900 guests, bringing together national healthcare leaders and professionals from both the NHS and private sector to celebrate the crucial contributions of the private sector within the NHS. The evening celebrated the achievements of a total of 141 finalists over 21 categories.

The Health & Care Act cites collaboration and partnership working as the key success factor for the future sustainability of the NHS. The HSJ Partnerships Awards are therefore not just a celebration of success stories but also a platform to shape the future of our integrated health and care system.

The prestigious award programme, now in its sixth year, recognises and honours the most effective partnerships, innovative projects and collaborations in the UK health system. Entering, being chosen as a Finalist, then being honoured with a High Commendation shines a light on HealthTrust Europe’s role in strengthening the healthcare system. This accolade also validates the importance of this project and gives our team the confidence to continue its tireless support work.

The judging panel comprised a diverse range of 90 highly regarded figures across the NHS and wider healthcare sector.

The Digital Pathology project partnership was selected based on its diligence, ambition, and the positive impact that the project has had on both practitioners and patients across 19 NHS Trusts in the PathLAKE consortium.  There was no pre-existing dedicated procurement route designed specifically to support requirements for digital pathology, creating a significant barrier to the overall project success.

The scope was to digitise histopathology slides and transition Trusts towards full digitalisation via the procurement of digital slide scanners and Image Management Software, enabling the foundation to advance towards clinical diagnostics via Artificial Intelligence solutions.

Key stakeholders were mapped and engaged, including Pathologists, Clinical Directors,

Laboratory Staff, Procurement Leads, IT Leads, Project Management Leads which formed critical support for the project to be successful and be delivered within the required timeframe.

As a direct result of this procurement procedure the consortium has benefitted from the power of aggregated spend resulting in a significant direct 30% saving for members of PathLAKE Plus across the services, supporting the Carter efficiency programme aims.
